About us

The Australian Federation for Livestock Working Dogs was formed with the aim of establishing an educated source of reliable information on behalf of all Australian Livestock Working Dogs, their handlers and breeders. This advice would be available to any who propose to make decisions which affect these dogs and their husbandry.

The Australian Federation for Livestock Working Dogs was formed with the aim of establishing an educated source of reliable information on behalf of all Australian Livestock Working Dogs, their handlers and breeders. This advice would be available to any who propose to make decisions which affect these dogs and their husbandry.

The Vision of AFLWD is:

To ensure that Livestock Working Dogs are valued for their contribution to the prosperity of the Australian Agricultural Industry and the National economy.

Its Objectives are

To Promote:

  • The Working Kelpie Council of Australia's 'Code of Welfare for Livestock Working Dogs'
  • The use of the highest quality Livestock Working Dogs.
  • The breeding of the highest quality Livestock Working Dogs.
  • The unique requirements of Livestock Working Dogs.
  • The correct training of Livestock Working Dogs.
  • A Code of Conduct for Livestock Working Dog owners and handlers.

To Ensure that:

  • The Australian Federation for Livestock Working Dogs is the recognised contact for government legislators for practical information regarding husbandry, training and use of Livestock Working Dogs.
  • Each State and Territory is supported in the gaining and/or the continuance of workable legislation for Livestock Working Dogs.
  • Any substantiated statistics regarding the use of Livestock Working Dogs are publicised.
  • People who train trainers are adequately experienced in actual livestock handling, using Livestock Working Dogs.
  • Where possible, the organisation is involved in the education of others regarding Livestock Working Dogs.
  • This Federation is publicised (breed organisations, farmers organisations, media, farm publications).
